Page 2 NOTES FROM NORM ~ What a Spring this has been! Sundays have been marked with event after event. These have been times of Celebration and recognitions: Easter -- Celebration -- A full house and a wonderful time of celebrating Representative from Red Willow Bible Camp First Communion for 5th graders Reception of New Members Rite of Confirmation Mother’s Day - Last Sunday of Sunday School - SS lead the worship High School senior recognition Each Sunday marked a ‘milestone’ in our faith walk. These our times that we as a congregation gather together to celebrate our youth moving forward on their faith walks. I am thankful for parents who have been faithful to the promises made at their child’s holy baptism. I rejoice at a congregation that rallies around these youth and encourage them by their presence at Sunday morning worship. As we move into the Summer the ‘things’ around the church building tend to decline. In a way, summer tends to be a time of recharging! We are able to do a few things that our schedules during the other three seasons don’t allow. My hope and prayer is that each of you have a ‘recharging experience’ this summer with your families and friends. May you be able to experience the beauty of God’s world and just bask in that glory. My hope and prayer is that the ‘faith community’ will be a part of your recharging, but if you choose to recharge in a different manner, then may God use that to His glory. A great big thank you to all the teachers that were involved with our Sunday School program and our confirmation program. These individuals faithfully prepare and come to teach our youth on a weekly bases during the school year. They make an impression upon our youth one that they may be realize, but may make a big difference in the life of that child. Thank you all! Also, a THANK YOU to Kristi Odegard for all the time that she put in to help make our confirmation program go so smoothly. She is the one that is confronted when parents think their child has done more work than what they have done. She is a tremendous asset to our youth and our education program. Thank you Kristi for your steady but firm stand - and for keeping such wonderfully correct records and for touching the lives of our youth. I normally don’t write about this situation, but I am going to try this year! The school year has come to an end. We, the parents and grandparents, watch out children as they maneuver through the school years. We often get angry at the teachers and maybe the administration, and maybe even the school board. It is so easy to make angry charges about what they are doing wrong and/or how things should really be done in the school system. I want to publicly thank the school system for what they do with and for our children. The teachers tend to be always the ones who aren’t doing justice to our students, but I believe the teachers are doing a marvelous job of educating our youth. Most of us that are ‘over the hill’ realize that these teachers are doing this educating without the backing that the teachers had in ‘our day’. Rules and guidelines have changed drastically - maybe for the good or for the worse - but our teachers are doing a great job in raising our children. THANK YOU TO

Page 3 YOU TEACHERS!!!!! Just things to remember: During the summer there are 2 VBS sessions for our Lisbon kids: May 30 - June 1 -- Community VBS at the park August 1-3 -- VBS at Trinity Lutheran There is still time to sign up for a Bible Camp experience. The proceeds will be used to help defray the cost of work that will be done on the Trinity Parking Lot hopefully this summer. Do you have the interest to share your talents by singing at a worship service this summer? Do you have family coming home who would like to sing at one of our summer worship services? If you wish to make a suggestion for someone to sing at a summer worship service, feel free to contact Charlene Rondestvedt From Pastor Tammy Christian prayer practices are as old as the Christian faith. We see different examples of prayer and prayer practices throughout the Bible. In Proverbs we read how the Lord hears our prayers. Many of the Psalms are songs or prayers. We hear how Jesus gets away to pray on his own. The disciples ask Jesus how to pray and Jesus replies with the words we commonly call the Lord’s prayer. There is no wrong way to pray. We pray in many ways- individually and corporately. Sometimes we pray to ourselves while at others times we pray with others such as during a worship service. Prayer is relationship and two-way communication with God. Often our prayers are making a request of God. Though it is good to ask God for the needs of our heart, it is also good to take time to listen to what God has to say to us. This requires taking the time to stop and quiet ourselves and spend time in the quiet to listen to what God has to say to us. For the last month, a group of us has been meeting to share a simple devotion and pray for the needs of those in our community. We also take a few minutes to learn a prayer practice, many of them in silence that revolve around listening to God. As we develop the inward attentiveness to God’s divine whisper, we begin to experience more of God’s presence and peace throughout the day. Last week one participant shared how reading a short daily devotion and meeting in our group for just one hour a week had really changed her life. I invite you to stop by and check it out. We meet Monday afternoons from 4:30-5:30 and Wednesday mornings 9:30-10:30. If these times don’t work for you, let me know, I have considered adding another and would love input.

Page 4 President’s Report Welcome to June!!! By the time you read this June will be upon us and we will all be wondering why time does not slow down and let us all catch our breath. Confirmation will be done, Senior recognition at Trinity will be over and so will High School Graduation of our community's young adults. I want to Congratulate all of Trinity's youth who completed Confirmation, and all the Seniors whom have made a huge step in this journey that we all refer to as Life! Pastor Norm gave Trinity's graduating Seniors a wonderful message on Senior Recognition Sunday and Pastor Tammy gave a great message to LHS Graduating Seniors at the Baccalaureate Service held this year at Trinity Lutheran Church under the sponsorship of the Lisbon Ministerial Group. Spring will now give into Summer and we will all continue to be busy. Our community farmers have been struggling with some weather issues this spring but I think most now are very close to having all their crop in the ground. School is out and vacations will be taken. Stop once in a while and give thanks to God for keeping each of us under His care as we all go about our daily duties that we all have to get done. We, as a community, have surely been blessed by Him. I found this while reading an article one day and would like to share it with all as I believe it should have meaning for each one of us!! A blind boys sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by, took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He then put the sign back so everyone who walked by would see the new words. Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. Later that same afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were going. The blind boy recognized his voice and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning?" and asked " What did you write?" The man said, "I only wrote the truth, I said what you said but in a different way." What the man had written was "Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it." Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing? Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told the people they were so lucky that they were not blind!! Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective? Moral of the story: Be thankful for what you have! Be Creative! Be Innovative! Think differently and Positively! When Life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show Life that you have a thousand reasons to Smile!!! Thank you to all of the youth and parents who helped to make May a special month for Trinity. We had people that helped with the catechization meal, people who helped with the Senior Breakfast and we have people who are helping out with the Relay for Life team—either by providing cash, food items or volunteering to walk. Thank you to Trinity’s Church Council and a few others who helped set up the church basement for Baccalaureate, who prepared the refreshments and also who cleaned up afterwards. It was very much appreciated by the seniors, their parents, the guests and the Ransom County Ministerial Association.

Change Makers Bike Rides 2017 Plans are underway for the annual Change Makers Bike Ride in the Eastern ND Synod to raise awareness and receive offerings for the ELCA Hunger program. This year our ride is expanding in a huge way! Bishop Terry suggested we connect the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with our ride, but none of the organizers wanted to bike 500 miles. The solution? EIGHT rides will take place on the same two days - one ride in each of the eight conferences of our synod. Routes of approximately 60 miles in each conference will add up to about 500 miles! The eight rides will take place June 23-24, and a team leader in each conference is planning the most appropriate route. Churches are being invited to host meals, refreshment stops, and an overnight stop. People can bike a segment or the entire two-day ride. The goal is to raise $5000 in each of the eight conferences. Churches are asked to take an offering for ELCA Hunger prior to the ride, and present checks for the offering to the bikers along the route. WELCA groups are also encouraged to present offerings for hunger. Hunger is an international crisis. Many people around the world struggle to find enough food to survive. It is true in our own state of ND that one out of seven are at risk for hunger. The goal of these rides is to raise awareness of this issue, and to raise funds to help alleviate hunger. For information on how to sign up for a ride, or how to contribute to ELCA World Hunger, contact Pastor Ivy Schulz at [email protected] or go online to www.eandsynod.org

The old copper range hood from Parsonage #2 has been rehabbed and is now used as a money collection spot for projects. We would like to collect one mile of pennies, one mile of nickels, one mile of dimes and one mile of quarters in order to resurface the parking lot at an estimated cost of $19,000.00 and $10,000 to help replenish our fuel fund. Please feel free to place paper money in there too. It won’t make as much sound, but will help us get to our goal faster.
