The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration is a program sized (600+ ASA) congregation in Dallas, Texas growing in all areas of ministry. We seek a youth minister who will lead us as we reach deep into the parish and beyond its walls to continue connecting with 6th-‐12th grade youth and help them form deep relationships with Jesus Christ, the Church, and each other. He or she will model a Christ like lifestyle and attitude, and will strive to provide an environment in which the youth are free to be themselves and to ask the difficult questions of faith and life. His or her goal will be to teach and nurture the faith as an integral part of life, appealing both to the intellect and the emotions, in ways which foster the growth of faith, service, mission and leadership in young people. Never a lone ranger, the youth minister will work with parents, other members of the parish, and the staff as partners in ministry. Qualifications • A Christian committed to Christ and the Church as the Body of Christ. • A respect and appreciation for the Episcopal expression of faith. • A grounding in scripture and theological reflection. • A Bachelor’s degree or substantial employment experience and education. Duties and Responsibilities • Coordinate and organize regular weekly youth formation-‐ Sunday Morning Christian Formation, Credo (Jr. High Group) and Crossover (High school group), including any additional supporting events and service opportunities in the community. This should involve some sort of regular teaching done by the youth minister in collaboration with lay adults from the parish. • Plan and lead special events, including an annual retreat, mission trip/Pilgrimage alternating years. • Recruit and manage adult volunteers for all areas of youth ministry, providing training and support. • Oversee two annual fundraisers to support youth trips (annual Garage Sale and Pumpkin Patch). • Connect with youth and their friends outside of youth group and Sunday worship. • Provide pastoral care of youth and families in conjunction with clergy and ministry staff. • Communicate regularly with youth, parents, and parish through email, telephone, and mailings. • Collaborate with leaders of Diocesan youth ministries for cooperative youth ministry opportunities. Additional Responsibilities • Develop and maintain an annual budget for youth ministry in coordination with direct supervisor. • Work with Rector and others to develop annual vision for youth ministry in accordance with the vision and mission of the parish. • Attend staff meetings, keep regular office hours, and meet regularly with the Christian Formation Ministry Team and the Rector or other designated supervisor. • Attend Sunday services as an example to youth of the importance of worship. • Participate in annual employment review. • Participate in continuing education. Time Full-‐time, Sundays-‐ Thursdays, including Sunday worship and formation, youth activities, and other special youth and parish events.
