THE FILLING OF THE SPIRIT KEN BERDING

ACTS 4:5-12, 23-31, 7:54-60, 13:4-12 Question: What is the filling of the Spirit in the book of Acts?

Definition: The filling of the Spirit is when the Holy Spirit more directly displays his presence and his power in his people. Analogy: A tankless water heater with pilot light. When can you expect to be filled with the Spirit? 1.

When you speak about Christ with unbelievers (Peter: Acts 4:8).

2.

When you pray (Congregation: Acts 4:31).

3.

When you suffer (Stephen: Acts 7:55).

4.

When you face spiritual attack (Paul: Acts 13:9).

THE FILLING OF THE SPIRIT LIFE CUES

ROMANS 8:1-11 1.

What is the most prominent thing that you have learned during this series on the Spirit? How is it impacting your daily living?

2. From this passage, where can you see it addressing the thought life? How does walking in the Spirit involve the thought life? Can you think of a specific example from your own life this week—when you had to start with addressing your thinking before you could walk in the Spirit?

3. Read Galatians 5:17. How do these two passages relate? How do you (or don’t) you relate to what these passages are talking about?

4. If you were to describe to someone the difference between the flesh and the spirit (your spirit—not God’s), how would you do it? How would you describe how God’s Spirit comingles with your spirit—especially when there is a potential conflict between the two?

This study guide should be used the week following the sermon it supplements. Be sure to work through the questions on your own before you meet in your Life Group. If your group doesn’t meet one week or you are not in a group, work through the guide on your own so that you can stay in sync with the series.
