The Maze Race to the Sea A female sea turtle ventures ashore at night during the warmest months of the year, uses her flippers to dig a pit in the sand, and lays 50 to 200 small, round eggs. After 45 to 70 days, hatchlings break through the shell and then dig out of the nest. They depend on the glow from the moon to guide them to their ocean home quickly, to avoid predators. Too many lights on the beach can distract them from heading in the right direction. Help the hatchlings safely make their way into the waves!
