(931)7283505. FARRAR, VERNON LEE - 93, Lynchburg, TN. Funeral service, 2 p.m., Sunday, September 24, 2017 in the Lynchburg Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard Logan and Bro. Eddie Canady officiating. Burial in Hurricane Baptist Church Cemetery in Moore County, TN. Mr. Farrar passed away September 20, 2017 at the Lynchburg Nursing Center. He was born in Moore County, TN to the late Albert and Grace Johnson Farrar. Mr. Farrar was the oldest member of Hurricane Baptist Church. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Pacific Theatre under the command of Gen. Douglas MacArthur where he received commendations for discovering a mine that could have caused a fatal blow to the ship he was on board. He retired from Jack Daniel Distillery, and he also loved to farm. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen McAdams Farrar; brothers, John and Bill Farrar; and sister, Juanita Coup. Survivors include his daughters, Betty Preston of Lewisburg, TN, Ellen Ray of Moore County, TN, and Sherre Hester and husband, Albert of Bell Buckle, TN; grandchildren, Jan Jenkins, John Preston, Rusty Ray, and Scott Cook; and great grandchildren, Caleb Ray, Jacob Cook, Justin Jenkins, Brock, Cody, and Sydney Preston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale Street, Memphis, TN 38105. Indianapolis. After moving to Manchester, Mrs. Mahler was active in her church, First Methodist Church of Manchester, and in local activities, including the Manchester Garden Club, the PTA, and other local organizations. For many years, she was a constant and devoted caregiver to her husband following his disability and retirement. She worked tirelessly in caring for him until his death in 1990. More recently, she had been a resident of Brookdale Assisted Living in Tullahoma. Mrs. Mahler will be fondly remembered as one who loved to be with people, cook and sew for family and friends, involved in her church, enjoyed boating and picnicking at the lake with her family, and visiting with her family in Indiana. A loving wife, mother, and friend to many, she was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Edna Yarber of Acton, IN; sisters, Betty, Melba, and Harriette; brother, Ray; and her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, George. Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Iris Mahler of Acton, IN and Rosie Yarber of Indianapolis, IN; sons, Robert and wife, Sharon of Murfreesboro, TN and Kenny and wife, Karen of Birmingham AL; and grandchildren, Andrew Mahler and wife, Anne Garland Mahler of Charlottesville VA, Brandon Mahler of Murfreesboro, TN, and Sam Mahler of Washington, DC. The family wishes to thank Mrs. Mahler’s caregivers and friends at Brookdale and Hospice Compassus for their loving care for her in her last years.
