The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce

WE BELIEVE . . . IN OPENING DOORS AND CLOSING DEALS Chamber Partnership with SCORE has a History of Success

12 volunteer business advisors. 2 locations. 129 new prospects in 2014 alone. 547 interviews, face-to-face meetings, or follow up meetings. The fact that the Chamber’s partnership with SCORE allows business owners and entrepreneurs to get confidential and FREE advice to solve business continuation and startup issues resolved is priceless! “SCORE’s history of success in Saratoga County has been one of the real secrets to our success,” says Chamber President Todd Shimkus. “These amazing volunteers give of their time and professional business expertise to help local people to make wise business decisions and prudent investments before launching new ventures. Because who they help is kept strictly confidential, the Chamber is unable to promote their success stories like we’d like to do but I can assure you we all pass by local businesses every day that have received help from SCORE.” If you know of a local entrepreneur looking for some expert advice, our SCORE volunteers are just a phone call away. Likewise if you are already a business owner who’d like someone with business leadership experi-

ence to simply chat with you about a challenge you are facing or an opportunity you’d like to consider, we also invite you to call the Chamber at 584-3255 to setup a confidential face-to-face meeting with one of our amazing SCORE volunteers. They hold meetings with their clients in the Chamber’s offices at 28 Clinton Street, in Saratoga Springs, or in space provided by Hudson Valley Community College, in the Tec-Smart facility, in Malta. SCORE has helped hundreds of local business owners and entrepreneurs all across Saratoga County every year. They help people to obtain financing, to develop solid business plans, to consider how they might transition their family owned business to the next generation, and to rethink a marketing plan or promotional program to achieve better results. The SCORE volunteers are carefully selected and have all successfully led or managed significant business operations from a variety of professional positions meaning they have expertise in a wide range of fields, including; finance, management, marketing, etc.

When we first began exploring the idea of opening a small business in Saratoga Springs, several business owners suggested we first meet with the team at SCORE through the Chamber of Commerce. We scheduled time with Bill Edwards and Richard Sellers to walk them through our business plan. Bill and Richard were instrumental in preparing us for what we needed to think about and actions to take prior to opening our doors. Given their backgrounds as successful professionals in the finance and marketing fields, they were able to give us expert direction and sound advice that proved extremely helpful. Upon our 6 month anniversary, we invited Bill and Richard to our store to conduct a formal business review with them. We wanted to share with them the state of our business and all that we had accomplished in the first two quarters of business. We cannot be more grateful for the SCORE team and their continued support! Jamie Mastroianni iRun LOCAL

Creativity and Humor. Often times challenges arise in our professional and personal relationships that if we can step back and consider the situation, we can realize can be diffused or solved through creativity and humor. This month’s gathering will be a discussion of applying these principles. This group is open to all female Chamber members and employees of Chamber member firms.

Thank you to Key4Women for sponsoring the 2015 Women’s Business Group

Leaders from the Regional Alliance for a Creative Economy (RACE), a community-selected group of regional leaders led by the Center for Economic Growth and the Community Foundation, will share information about the great strides that have been made with the Capital Region Creative Economy Project. The Capital Region Creative Economy Project was developed as a way to leverage our region’s creative talent, performing arts venues and products to

drive our regional economy through travel and tourism, workforce development, and more.

The Twin Bridges Council of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce will partner with DeCrescente Distributing to bring a networking mixer to Mechanicville. Before the mixer, there will be an orientation for all new or existing members looking to learn the full benefits of your Chamber membership investment. Immediately following, you will have the oppor-

tunity to join your fellow Chamber members for networking, hors d’oeuvres and drink specials, while touring DeCrescente Distributing’s new office building

In November 2014, RACE released “Leveraging Creative Assets for A Vibrant Future,” a report that detailed results and recommendations from a ninemonth-long research study examining the greater Capital Region’s creative composition.
