This is A Test Money Talks Unlocking the Secrets of Wealth, Part 5

Message by Your Campus Lead February 13-14, 2016

God does not want your money, he wants you.

Malachi 3:8-9

1. God defines the test.

Malachi 3:10, 3:15 1. In what ways have you been challenged the most during our series, Money Talks? 2. Read Malachi 3:8-9. When God tells the nation of Israel that they were robbing Him, do you think that was fair? Why or why not? How does holding back tithes and offering rob God? 3. Read Malachi 3:10. What does God mean when He talks about the “whole” tithe? Should your tithe be based off your gross or net income? What about bonuses and gifts? 4. Read Malachi 3:8-12. This passage indicates believers are to bring the tithe to the storehouse. Is the storehouse the local church or does it mean any organization you give to?

2. God decides the outcome.

5. If God is responsible for the outcome of your generosity, what control should you have in regards to where your gift is spent? Do you expect the church, a missionary, or some other organization to give you an exact detail of where your specific gift was applied? 6. Read Proverbs 3:1-10. How does trusting God and not leaning on your own understanding (v.5-6) help you honor the Lord with your wealth? What does honoring God with the first fruits look like in your life?

• He provides • He protects • He proclaims

Malachi 3:10 Malachi 3:11 Malachi 3:12

Read Deuteronomy 29:5–6. After Moses led the Israelites out of captivity in Egypt they would experience many years of wandering in the desert. They were a nation of people who knew what it was like to live without financial security. They also grew to know what it was like to follow the Lord and experience His provision. As you read these verses, consider: 7. How long did God lead the Israelites through the desert? What “financial desert” do you find yourself in at the moment? How long have you been there? 8. What reason does God give for allowing the Israelites to wander in the desert for forty years while providing for them in unique ways? 9. If God can provide clothes and sandals that don’t wear out after forty years of hard use, what might He do if you allow Him to lead and provide for you? 10. Whether or not you find yourself in a “financial desert” now, God is at work providing for you. Take a few minutes to share ways He’s provided for you in the last week or month.

3. God distinguishes the faithful.

Malachi 3:16-18

11. At the end of our lives, when we stand before the Lord we all want to hear “well done good and faithful servant.” In Malachi 3:18, God says that there will be a distinction between the righteous and the wicked. As you think about the way you spend, save, and give money, do you think God would say “well done?”
