Dear friends, it is a joy to be with you in this ministry! There have been conversations, some with me, others only heard second hand, which circulate around our summer Service experiment. The following are questions that I have heard (in general) and a few hopefully thoughtful answers. As we dive in to these, let us contemplate the meaning of Paul’s words to us from Romans chapter 5: Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us (vv. 1-5). Some have asked why we are moving to one worship Service during the summer months. First, let me clarify that this is only for the months of June-August (roughly), and NOT a test for moving toward one Service full time. Second, the plan is to survey all of you at the end of the summer for input for future summers. Now, here’s what leadership has said: There has been a significant decline in attendance on Sunday mornings during the summer for the last several years. Hosting two Services is not a great burden; however it has become a question of “necessity” and “hospitality”. Necessity as to whether the numbers required the extra space and man power. Hospitality is the inviting atmosphere that connects worship and worshippers. If there is too much space in the sanctuary it feels empty, too crowded, it is unappealing. Discussions on these matters had been ongoing the past several years. It was brought up last year for implementation, and per Pastor’s request, was not pursued to allow both people and pastor time to acclimate without further change. The goal is growing in Christ, not dividing. This summer seemed appropriate timing. What about the financial impact on the musicians and the Church? The Board of Lay Ministry made it clear that this Cont’d on pg. 2

Cont’d from pg. 1 experiment would not negatively impact the financial or contractual agreements made with Daniel and Ruth. Nor is it to suggest major near-future changes regarding Services times any other time of year. Altering their positions was considered unfair, inappropriate, and unhealthy for all involved at this time. What about the style or format of the weekly Services? Will there be a calendar that informs members which format would be used on what Sundays? These questions are related, and they reveal an underlying current of potential conflict. The conflict: pitting personal preferences against upholding the body of Christ in unity. They raise some corresponding questions: Does publicizing the information encourage unity in Christ or promote disunity and personal desires? Does personal preference validate or invalidate worship? Faith is always personal, but it is never private. Change always offers real chances for sin to sprout: grudges, money to be used as a threatening weapon, avoidance from corporate worship. However, change also sows seeds of Gospel growth: connecting people from two worship Services, practical application of bearing with one another in love, deepened humility and mutual service, opportunity to practice our freedom in Christ’s forgiving love, and a developing understanding of being “the body of Christ”—i.e. the family of God. Lastly, How can we express our concerns? This is a great question. Your thoughts need to be expressed the right way, to be heard by the right people. One avenue for such expression is to grumble or gossip. Unfortunately, walking this path separates people, and increases sin among us. Worse yet, we never really find satisfaction for our feelings. So the Lord has given His Church another way. People are encouraged to report their concerns and share their feelings honestly and in love with those who, in this case in particular, have been given the responsibility to take such actions. So please, if you have some thoughts, or even more so, have some fears or hurts, please contact one of these people: Justin Hackett, Jon Lenz, Kyle Dusing, Jeff Snyder, Karen Petron-Broda, Jon Roesch, Bob Koroll, or myself—Pastor Hinz. As you think about taking this step, remember two things: One, we—you and they (us)—are related by the blood of Jesus and desire to be united if faith even in disagreements. Two, you have placed responsibility for such decisions upon these people, offered accountability so they would be willing listeners to you, and promised to be diligently supporting them in word, in prayer, and in patience. We walk together my friends, in this life and in this faith. We do so remembering the justification by faith that has been granted to us through Jesus Christ our Lord, that we might have peace with God and with one another. By this we access grace, not only for ourselves, but also for one another, yes, even those we disagree with. Not only so, but we rejoice together, because we suffer together, growing into the hope that doesn’t disappoint, because God’s love has been poured into each of our hearts. I thank God that He has raised us up together for such a time as this! I commend all of this to Christ for our up building in Him! God’s peace, TRINITY

Daily Bread from GOD’sText This past week I read an article by Mindy Belz in *WORLD Magazine [May 25, 2019, p. 34] that may resonate with thoughts of GOD’sText readers. She described her experience of reading through the entire Bible as “life-changing, revitalizing, essential.” She was also honest to admit that reading through the Old Testament (e.g., Leviticus) is challenging. Consider for a moment, Homer Simpson, paging through a Bible, saying, “Talk about a preachy book, everybody’s a sinner, except for this guy.” Then it takes three-quarters of the Bible before we meet Jesus (in the flesh) in the New Testament!

Well, hang in there with your daily Bible reading through the Old Testament (as well as Sunday worship and Bible Class) and avoid a summer slump. Why? Mindy offers three reasons: First, we read the Old Testament because Jesus did. He said, “Everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled” (Luke 24:44). Second, we read the Old Testament to slow down. We need patience for an impatient world. The longer view … cultivates a deeper, steadier rhythm. We learn how others coped or didn’t … how God’s people cultivated hope … how they persevered when the world was against them … how God rescued them, time and time again. Third … “to build muscle.” “It takes strength to enjoy the world, and we must exercise a kind of muscle to revel and delight” (Tish Harrison Warren in Liturgy of the Ordinary). Slogging through the plagues of Egypt gets us to the redemption, rescue, and healing. Daily Bible reading is not a duty or task to check off each day like getting in 10,000 steps. It is the project of a lifetime. May you experience God’s insights and blessings as you continue reading through the Old Testament this summer (and beyond). Be patient for we will get to reading New Testament next year. It’s OK, even now, to seek a peek – you’ll be reassured God keeps all of his promises in Jesus Christ. Living daily by grace,

“Readers Digest” Guide to BPM 2019 The BPM group (Rev. John & Judy Beck and Pastor Hinz) would like to thank you (all the members of Trinity) for supporting the effort to attend this wonderful event [along with our partners— Strohschein’s, Kurash’s, and Joanne Keck]. It was a blessing to be participants, to experience the Church coming together in such a rich and hospitable way, and to return with learning, enrichment, and things to share for the benefit of our ministry efforts here at Trinity. With this opportunity came also a responsibility to share what we gained with you. We offer here a brief overview of what we gained and a summation of our thoughts for future sharing, study, and investment. An eight-page report has been given to our leadership and is available at your request. We would invite anyone interested to ask questions of us, or speak to the congregational leaders for ways to support, become involved, or encourage BPM and our efforts at proclaiming the kingdom of God here. We were given numerous opportunities for personal and corporate growth through these break-out sessions and plenary meetings. Our group was likewise blessed by our time together sharing information, considering the Word of God for us and for Trinity, and bonding as fellow members of the body of Christ. Lutheran Student Fellowship We had our Bible study with one young girl from Rwanda, Rosette, Christian background but really not much instruction. Then Masa from Japan - when he got here asked if his friend could come- so he came as well. Both of these young men are new to the Bible. They each were given a Bible and a workbook. They asked a lot of questions. Both so thankful to be invited back next week. If I sound excited it is because I am! What a blessing this Bible study will be! These are the opportunities we pray for! Please pray with me that we continue to have chances to share Jesus with these young people. God Bless!

Worship and Music Notes
The “festival” half of the Church Year, celebrating the life of Christ from birth to ascension and the sending of the Holy Spirit as well as the recognition of the Holy Trinity, is transitioning into the “non-festival” half of the Church Year, the life of the church. The first half shows us that our Lord is the Lord who serves as witnessed in His life, death and resurrection. We also see His service to us in the Word and Sacraments as we gather on the Lord’s Day each week. The Lord’s service calls forth our service. How? Our service is demonstrated in sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving to Him and in loving service to one another. Having been called, gathered, enlightened, and sanctified by the Holy Spirit, we receive His gifts with thankfulness and praise. With psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, we joyfully confess all that God has done for us, declaring the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. Our song joins with the song of every saint from every age to declare, extol, and magnify the strong name of our Triune God- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In every age God blesses His people by raising up hymnwriters who have honed their craft to create rich and fresh expressions of praise. Our Lutheran Service Book delivers a rich feast of Gospel-centered hymns from every age and many lands. I marvel at the content of the hymn texts as they bring God’s Word to our lips though song. They teach and proclaim in a myriad of ways that never grow stagnant or mundane. The hymns selected for our services are chosen for their correlation to the texts for the day. They may not always be familiar but are balanced out by a few well-known hymns. The introductions and harmonizations are selected based on the texts they are representing. I have been influenced by my years at Concordia, St. Paul and through Hymn Festivals I attend at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, the home of well-known Cantor Paul Manz now succeeded by David Cherwin, in Minneapolis. The organ our church has been blessed with provides creative interpretations to the literature based on our hymns. The music functions to serve the Incarnate Word. Manz is quoted as saying, “The music may woo the people, but it is the Word who will win them.” Like Martin Luther, Manz knew of music’s exegetical and proclamatory power; but, also like Luther, he knew the Word was central. May that truth be paramount as we worship through our hymns whether they be old favorites or newly penned. May the resources of our hymnal and voices be used in all their fullness to give voice to prayer, praise, and thanksgiving of God’s holy people as we are graciously served by Him through Word and Sacrament. +++++++++++++++++ Voices raised to You we offer; Tune them, God, for songs of praise. Festival of Nativities Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th, 2019 Trinity is hosting the second Festival of Nativities in December. Would you like to participate in this non-denominational, intergenerational Christian outreach opportunity which is free for everyone in the Sauk Rapids/St. Cloud community? Last year between 350-400 individuals enjoyed the 80 plus nativity sets displayed in the fellowship hall. In addition, a variety of beautiful Christmas musical performances were enjoyed including a harpist, soloists, bell choir, and several musical groups. A children’s area and live “historical nativity” were also included. Committees will be forming soon! Regardless of the time commitment you can make or the talent you possess, there is a place for you to volunteer and participate in celebrating our Savior’s birth with the Sauk Rapids/St. Cloud area. Highlighted this month... Sanctuary Choir The Sanctuary Choir provides additional music for the glory of God during the traditional service once a month and/or for holiday services. Our goal is to have enough voices to use 4-part repertoire, but more often then not go down to 3-part, 2-part, or unison selections. We are always on the look-out for more singers, especially lower voices! We start in September and usually end in May. Our rehearsals are typically at 6:00 on Wednesday evenings, unless we are sharing the space with the Celebration Ringers, then we may meet later. Summer Worship Schedule
Thank you for your continued support of Prince of Peace Lutheran School during the 2018-19 school year! This was a great school year ss we served 210 students in Preschool through 8th grade. There were many memories made this school year, here are a few highlighted for you! •
We had a class of 12 8th graders that were excellent leaders for our student body this year. We are so proud of them and the blessings that they will be as they go into high school next year!

Two of our teachers found out that they were expecting babies! A Preschool teach at Trinity, Mrs. Vanessa Bauer and her husband welcomed Anastasia Lee on Wed., May 15th into the world. Our 7th & 8th grade teacher, Mrs. Sarah Cation and her husband Jason are expecting a baby in June. We bid farewell and Gods’ richest blessings on Mrs. Cation as she will not be returning to Prince of Peace next year. We thank her for her dedicated service at POP!

Our students supported some amazing organizations with their chapel offerings. We collected food and money for Redeemer & Holy Cross’ food shelves. We collected the money for Camp Gratitude, Shoes that Grow, and Lutheran Island Camp. Our final offering went towards Chemo Bags that were packed and given to Coborn’s Cancer Center. These bags will be handed out all year long.

Our Middle School Robotics Team consisted of 3 8th graders who had an outstanding season. We were so excited to support them as they competed in Iowa at the US Create Open in April.
I want to personally thank your congregation for the welcome that you have given to me and my family. It is hard to believe that our first year here is already done, and we are looking forward to many more. We are so thankful that God has called us to serve here in St. Cloud. Be Strong in the Lord,
Summer worship services times will change June through September 1st to 9:00 a.m. It is an experiment and an opportunity for folks from two Services to bond! Sunday Bible Class will continue at 8:00am. We are looking into childcare. If you are willing to help coordinate, please contact the office. Coffee Fellowship will follow worship. Lutheran Island Camp On June 2nd, nearly 30 young people will be installed at Lutheran Island Camp as the 2019 summer staff. The service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Henning. This year’s staff comes from around the country. Most are college students completing at least their first year of college. Many are studying for the ministry or church work of some type. They will have gone through a recruitment process by the NLOMA. They have had over 80 hours of training and will be ready to care for the hundreds of children who come to Lutheran Island Camp. As a congregation we will be praying for the camp and staff and we ask that each of our members lifts the camp up in your prayers. Our thanks to volunteers who have stopped by at camp to help out with various projects. This week already we’ve had volunteers for mowing, quilt auction and Christ Serve Ranch. If you have some extra time, we could use help this spring and summer with projects that range from our gardens to the quilt auction, from answering phones to help with mailings, from mowing lawns to fishing guides, from help with our Shoes for the Mission project to forming a Thrivent Action Grant Team. We need you and appreciate you!
