VISION SUNDAY Feb. 1st 9:00AM—Combined Bible Class in the Outreach Bldg for Jr High thru Adults (Children’s classes will meet as usual.)

Ephesians 3:20—21 ~ Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

To Our Guests… We are blessed to have you here with us for worship today. Our prayer is that your time with us will be a blessing, and that you will find the worship uplifting, the message encouraging, the Lamar Avenue family friendly and the atmosphere welcoming. For families, we have a staffed nursery (ages birth-24 months) located in the back of the foyer. We also offer Children’s worship for children ages 2 through Kindergarten. They will be dismissed during our assembly. Please stop by the Welcome Center (located in the middle of the foyer) for more information about our church family and the many different ministries we are involved with. We are so glad you are here and hope you will join us as we seek to know God and His vision for His people and the world.

Marcelino Rodriguez Something that is supposed to be “normal” becomes “weird”. For Mary, a mother of three, the day was a normal day like any other. She woke early to get ready to go to work. She usually wakes around 4:00am to prepare everything to go to work and send her kids, two girls, ages 11 and 9, and a boy of 7, to school. Every day she wakes them up early so she can take them along with a neighbor to school. That day looked normal…..like every other day. However, it was not going to be. Mary and her children had to go just a few streets to the neighbor’s house. While they were waiting for the light to change to cross the street, a car suddenly hit them and killed the three children instantly. The mother tried so hard to help them but they were already dead. The police found out later that the driver of the vehicle was completely drunk. He didn’t even realize until later what happened that terrible morning. In our society it is becoming more acceptable that people think it is normal to drink alcohol. Every day we see this story or a similar one repeat itself. I just want to tell those who think drinking beer and wine is not wrong that they need to ask the mother of these three children what she thinks about drinking. The Bible warns in Isaiah 5:11 Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine. Isaiah 5:22 Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks…, and verse 20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Also take a look at other scriptures in the bible, Proverbs 23:20,and 29-33 and Eph5:18. Our society says that it is not a problem to drink but the bible says that it is a sin. We need to ask ourselves and this world….. Does this driver, under the influence, have the right to get completely drunk and kill these 3 kids? Does he have the right to destroy this family? I don’t think so. Many people in these times are slaves to alcohol. They really need someone to tell them that what they are doing is wrong and they can be helped if they allow it. We as a society and as the Church need to stand firm in this reality and not be afraid to declare firmly that drinking alcohol is wrong (Ephesians 5:7-11.), and that the use of any kind of drugs is wrong. The example of this family is only one of many that happens every day. This is a true and very sad story and a part of a large sad list of the victims of alcohol. The drunk driver in this story is perfectly fine. It was his third DWI and still nobody stopped him. It is sad that every 30 minutes 1 person dies from an accident involving alcohol and 17 are injured. Here in Lamar County, this past New Year’s eve there were no DWI arrests and everybody seemed surprised by that! Do you see how something that was supposed to be “normal” became weird? Sometimes we have questions of whether it is right or wrong to drink. I think we need to be different in this world and be the light to others who are in darkness. Let’s be full of the Holy Spirit not full of alcohol.1 Peter 4:3-5. Ephesians 4:22&30.
