Wayne Presbyterian Church Job description Interim Associate Minister of Education and Discipleship Position Type: Staff Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: Full Time; minimum 12 month assignment Position Summary Wayne Presbyterian Church is a 2,000 member congregation located on the historic Main Line of Philadelphia. For 148 years, it has served the township of Wayne and a larger geographic area with a commitment to great worship, beautiful music, strong education programs and a thriving mission program. Our mission statement says it best: “In an atmosphere of caring hospitality, Wayne Presbyterian Church responds to God’s grace with worship, lifelong Christian education, and mission outreach.” The Interim Associate Minister of Education and Discipleship reports to the Senior Pastor and Head of Staff. The individual will assume responsibility for:  Assisting the Senior Pastor with general pastoral duties including leadership in worship, participating in the Sacraments, preaching, counseling, and pastoral calling  Planning, supervising, and directing the Christian development of WPC’s congregation.  Overseeing programs of the church in accordance with the policies and direction of Session, and the respective committees, including Adult Education, Discipleship, Fellowship, Youth, and Women’s Ministries.  Lending support to new initiatives in a time of organizational and personnel change Vision for Role: To provide increasing opportunities for greater congregational engagement and leadership development for an overall deepening of faith to express the love of Christ and witness to God’s grace. Duties And Responsibilities •

Share in ministry functions of WPC o Leading in worship, preaching 5-7 times annually, participating in liturgy weekly and participating in the Sacraments o Conducting weddings, baptisms, and funerals upon request o Joining in pastoral ministry in cooperation with others on the pastoral team o Attend Session meetings o Serve as staff liaison to the Session’s Subcommittees as noted above o Support the broader mission of the Church o Oversee Director and Associate Director of Youth Ministries, and administrative

assistants assigned to the Minister of Education & Discipleship Serving as a resource to the Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC) Lead new member recruitment and assimilation by: o Developing and administering New Member Orientation classes; coordinating staff and Session participants in classes; recruiting class members by actively following up on WPC visitors o Encouraging existing groups at WPC to welcome new members and facilitating spiritual growth of all members o Following up on persons who have united with WPC and shepherding them into active involvement Adult Education o Overseeing all adult education on Sundays and throughout the week o Coordinating publicity for adult education Fellowship committee o Overseeing congregation-wide fellowship events, and sub-teams such as coffee hour, greeters, among others. o Coordinating publicity for fellowship activities Groups and Ministries o Serving as staff liaison for both men’s and women’s ministries o Facilitating women’s Bible studies o Identifying, developing, maintaining and expanding groups as the need arises Staff / Session o Assisting in coordination of Christian Education work with that of other committees o Assisting in coordination of intergenerational projects with other staff and committees o Assisting the head of staff in general pastoral duties with leadership in worship and preaching, counseling, and pastoral calling Communications o Editing the monthly Wayne Press newsletter o Coordinating content, photos, and other materials to WPC’s web site Youth committee (In conjunction with the Director and Associate Director of Youth Ministry) o Serving as advocate for youth to staff, Session and the congregation o Supporting the Confirmation class in conjunction with Director of Youth Ministry Performing other duties and work on special projects as assigned. o

















Minimum Qualifications • • • •

The individual selected must be an ordained Presbyterian pastor. Four years’ experience as associate pastor. Experience as interim pastor preferred. Capable in MS Office -- Word, Excel, Publisher. Able to use technical program for web site’s content management system. Skilled team player with excellent oral and written communications skills, a positive attitude, an outgoing personality, and the ability to connect with both individuals and groups. Experience working with large, complex church programs. Experience coordinating small group meetings.

Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours This position is full time, including evening and weekend hours. Special Message to Applicants Travel expenses are reimbursable. There is no relocation package for this position. Posting Date: February 3, 2018 Salary Posting Information: The salary minimum is above the Presbytery minimum, actual salary will be commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for full participation in the Board of Pension and Healthcare programs of PC(USA). The position will be eligible for four weeks of vacation (including four Sundays) and two weeks of study leave annually.
