Wealth is Better Than … But Jesus is True Riches BETTER THAN | ECCLESIASTES 5:10-6:12 Ben Parkinson Teaching Pastor

Eccl 5:10; 7:11

Having wealth on the earth is better than true poverty.

But seeing wealth as the answer to everything ultimately lets us down.

• No matter how much money we have/earn, it will never feel like enough.

Eccl 5:10-11; 6:7-9

• Money really isn’t happiness, in fact, it doesn’t even “help.”

Eccl 5:12

• There’s no guarantee that we can get rich, no matter how hard we try.

Eccl 9:11; 10:6-7

• There’s no guarantee we’ll get to enjoy what we save.

Eccl 5:13-14; 6:1-2

• There is a guarantee that we can’t take it with us.

Eccl 5:15

• Money won’t save us, in this life or the next.

Eccl 6:6

So what do we do?

• Find joy “in” earning our money because work is a gift from God.

Eccl 5:12a, 18; 9:10

• Be wise with your money, realizing that we live in a fallen, broken world.

Eccl 11:2, 6

• Enjoy the good things God has blessed you with in measure. Eccl 5:19-20, 6:3-6, 7:14, 9:8-9, 10:19 • Realize that God isn’t impressed with our wealth, but gives it to us for His purposes. • Give generously, storing up treasure in heaven which does last forever!

Eccl 11:1; Matt 6:19-34

• Let the fleeting joy that wealth brings us point us to the true riches that we have in Christ. Luke 16:10-13; Eph 1:3-14
