WEARY? TOWARD BEING REFRESHED Kyle Fox February 19, 2017

2 CORINTHIANS 4:1-2

Refreshment for life and ministry comes by recognizing and remembering truth: 1. The glorious story of what God is doing and our role within it. 2. God is merciful to us. 3. God exists and our lives are ever before him. (Good friends remind each other of these truths) Truth leads to a pattern of renouncing and committing: 1. Renouncing the old habits of hiding our sin through: a. Manipulation — steering the perspectives of others to justify our actions. b. The tampering of the word of God. 2. Committing to living and doing the truth: a. Living the vulnerable life we proclaim: we are a people whom the Spirit has in process. b. Doing the hard work of confession and forgiveness. c. There is more credibility in transparency than in presenting ourselves well.

QUESTIONS

1. How do these verses connect with the previous passages? What does “this ministry” refer to? (It might be helpful to read  3:4-9).

2. Paul had been shown mercy by God (1 Timothy 1:12-15). Share a story of your own personal experience of God’s mercy.

3. Does your experience motivate you to share who Jesus is with others? Why or why not?

4. Are there examples in our day and age of “ministers” who practice cunning or tamper with the word? What should our response be?

5. How does Paul’s perspective on his difficulties challenge your own perspective? What needs to change about your view of life in order to experience refreshment?
