January 11, 2019 – Prayer Guide Hey, Prayer Warriors! Thank you for continuing to persevere on your knees and asking God to accomplish His will. As you walk through today’s prayer guide, my prayer for you is that you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you as you communicate with Him. Remember: Prayer is the work, then God works. I can’t wait to see all that God is doing and will be doing as a result of your fervent prayers!

Jeff Phillips Pastor of Next Generation and Ministry Environments

SECTION 1: REVERENCE (suggested time: 10 minutes) This section is to focus on the character of God by praising and thanking Him. Begin by reading the following verse: “…God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.” - 1 Corinthians 14:33

§

Praise and thank God for who He is. Select an attribute of God in this verse, and enter into a time of praise and thanksgiving. For example, this verse refers to God as the God of peace. Here is one way

you can turn Your recognition of this attribute into a prayer back to Him:

“God, You are the God of order and of peace. Your ways are never filled with confusion and chaos. You are the God of peace.” Identify other attributes or words within this verse that speak to you, and turn it into prayer back to God. Allow the Bible to be the centerpiece of your communication with God. §

Set your focus on the Lord by meditating on a song. Read a portion of Blessed Be Your Name by Matt Redman, or use your phone or computer to listen to the whole song. Blessed Be Your Name, In the land that is plentiful Where Your streams of abundance flow, blessed be Your name Blessed Be Your name, When I'm found in the desert place Though I walk through the wilderness, blessed Be Your name Every blessing You pour out, I'll turn back to praise When the darkness closes in, Lord, still I will say Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your glorious name

SECTION 2: RESPONSE (suggested time: 5 minutes) This section is about surrender. In response to who God is, this is an opportunity to yield yourself to Him. §

Reflect on the attribute of God in 1 Corinthians 14:33.

§ §

How do these attributes impact your life personally? In what areas of life do you need to experience the peace of God?

As the Holy Spirit sheds light on your life, let that lead you to pray. For example, “Lord I praise You for Your heart of peace. You make my life stable and peaceful. Without You, I live in the chaos I produce along with the chaos produced by this world.” Read this verse and respond as God speaks to you: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” - Psalm 51:10

SECTION 3: REQUESTS (suggested time: 10 minutes) This section is to lay requests before God. You may want to use a journal to make notes for each area provided. During this time, if the Lord directs you to pray about other needs, follow His leadership. Begin by reading this verse: “Trust in the Lord forever, For in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock.” Isaiah 26:4 §

Seek the Lord about each of these specific areas:

1. Personal and/or Family Needs: What is on your heart to pray on a personal level? - Recommendation: Pray for God’s direction for any life decisions that are before you and/or your family. 2. Ministry Needs: What is on your heart to pray for those you serve or influence? - Recommendation: Pray for someone in your life who is walking through a crisis or transition.

3. Hope Church: What is on your heart to pray for Hope Church? - Recommendation: Cross-Cultural Church Plants in Las Vegas Pray for God’s blessing, guidance, and open doors for these church planters: Pastor Shahbaz and Bashrian Khan – South Asian Hope Church Pastor Martin and Mary Haghani – Iranian Baptist Church Pastor Eric and Vickie McDaniel – Refuge Church

SECTION 4: READINESS (suggested time: 5 minutes) This final section of prayer is intended to remind you of the spiritual battle before you and, more importantly, your new identity in Christ in the midst of the battle. §

Pray for God to use you and/or your family for His mission.

There are opportunities in Las Vegas, the West, and the world to push back darkness with the glorious light of the Gospel. Pray for God to take you deeper to join in His mission. Enjoy the day God has given you!
