How to Make Video with Powerpoint (Using PC in CL245) (no annotations, effects, or editing) What you will need: ● Powerpoint presentation (.ppt file) ● Transcript of your narration (on a separate device or hard-copy) ○ NOTE​: you may choose to have your entire transcript in the slide presenter notes, in which case, please follow this guide up to Step 5 and select Option 2 Step 1:​ Open your powerpoint presentation using Powerpoint on the PC (located on the left hand side on dark grey desk in Room CL245, the eLearning Studio) Step 2:​ With your presentation up on Powerpoint, click the Add-Ins tab on the top toolbar. You will now see the recording tools provided by the Camtasia Powerpoint Add-In and will use these functions to record your presentation.

Step 3:​ Set up your microphone and camera. In the Add-Ins tab, click on the Camtasia Recording options button on the far right in the row. It is circled in the top figure. Step 4:​ In the window that opens, please have the following options selected and click OK.

Camera Prep: ​Make sure the camera is ON. A Red light circle will appear around the Logitech logo on the camera at the top of the computer monitor to indicate that the camera is on.



You can preview the camera view by clicking the Show Camera Preview button (second button in Add-In toolbar from the right) Microphone Prep: ❏ Unmute the microphone by looking at the light on the MUTE button located on the side facing you. When muted, the light is blinking and when unmuted, the light is solid ❏ On the side facing away from you, spin the GAIN knob all the way to the left. ❏ On the side facing away from you, spin the PATTERN knob to the following setting. This will ensure that the mic picks up most sound from in front and least from behind it.

Step 5:​ Click the red RECORD button in the Add-Ins Toolbar. This will take you to either a presenter view or a regular slide-show view, but don’t worry, it hasn’t started recording anything yet.

To toggle between Slide Show and Presenter view, just right-click on the screen, and select either Hide Presenter View or Show Presenter View, depending on what type of view you started out on. Use Slide Show View (by clicking Hide Presenter View) and record your presentation in this view. ​NOTE:​ You will be unable to see your presenter notes right on the screen or live-annotate the slides. Step 6:​ If are ready to begin narrating your presentation, go ahead and click the red ​Click to Begin Recording button in the bottom right hand corner while in Slide Show View. ​NOTE​: Anything on the screen will be recorded, so do not open any other windows or close your powerpoint presentation until you are finished. Step 7:​ Once you have finished your presentation, click the Esc button to stop recording. You will be returned back to the Powerpoint layout and asked if you would like to stop recording. Select Stop Recording.

Step 8:​ The following window will appear and prompt you to save your recording as a .trec file. Name your recording and click Save.

Step 9:​ The following window will appear asking if you would like to publish your recording or edit it in Camtasia. If you do not wish to add any animations/transitions/captions, cut out any parts of your recording, or edit any of the recording, select Produce Your Recording. ● If you plan on editing your presentation, select Edit Your Recording and see our editing guide ​here​, which will show you how to edit and publish the video from Camtasia.

Step 10: ​If you selected Produce Your Recording, you will be taken to the Camtasia interface and the following window will appear. Click on the dropdown menu and select one of the following options to suit your needs: MP4 only (up to 480p), MP4 only (up to 720p), or MP4 only (up to 1080p)

Step 11:​ You may be warned that some features may not appear in the final version. Since we have not added any features and are creating a flat video, select OK. Step 12: ​The next screen will ask you to name your production and select the correct file folder to save it into. Name your file and note which folder it will save into. Your window should look like below:

Step 13:​ Select Finish. Now your video has been created in the folder you chose. Please save this file to cloud storage or a storage device so you can access it later from other computers. WARNING: All files and work will be deleted from the computer after logging out. Be sure to save anything you need before you log out.

When you open the program, you’re going to see this general layout. Here is the modification bin, the timeline, the canvas, and the properties window which you can toggle on and off. Camtasia’s screendraw tool only works on the active green screen. It doesn’t save once you go back to clicker.
