August 2014

Works in Durward Street and Fulbourne Street Crossrail’s contractor BBMV is currently constructing the new temporary ticket hall on Durward Street close to the junction with Castlemain Street. The walls and sides of the temporary ticket hall will continue to be installed from late August until November 2014. Some of the activity will take place during the day although, for safety reasons, parts of the programme will take place at night between 01:00 and 05:00 when the railway is not operational. Preparation work and activity to the north of the temporary ticket hall will also take place between 20:00 and 05:00. In addition to this, we will also be installing roof plates and working on the station canopy to the south east of the temporary ticket hall between 01:00 and 05:00 during this period. Part of the programme of temporary ticket hall upgrade activity involves the use of mobile elevation units, which will need to operate in Fulbourne Street and Durward Street. As a result, sections of the road adjacent to the temporary ticket hall will have restricted vehicle access during the next three months. The section of Durward Street between the Castlemain Street junction and Trinity Hall will be closed to vehicles between 20:00 and 05:00 from 26 August to 22 September 2014, when all vehicles wishing to visit Trinity Hall and the Sports Centre will need to enter Durward Street from Brady Street. During the day, between 05:00 and 20:00, this section of Durward Street will have restricted, local area only access. A temporary barrier will be put in place at the junction of Durward Street and Castlemain Street. The barrier will be removed to allow local access to vehicles up to a maximum of 3.5 tonnes visiting the Whitechapel Sports Centre and Trinity Hall. Larger vehicles wishing to visit the Sports Centre or Trinity Hall will need to access Durward Street from Brady Street during this time.

A mobile elevation unit will also operate at the north end of Fulbourne Street between 00:00 and 05:00 and the road will be closed during this time from 26 August until late November 2014 while the temporary ticket hall programme takes place. The drawing below provides an illustration of the revised access routes to Whitechapel Sports Centre and Trinity Hall.

Durward Street revised access from 26 August 2014 Cabin in Castlemain Street In order to support the temporary ticket hall and station upgrade activity, a temporary cabin will be located in the section of Castlemain Street already closed to traffic close to the junction with Durward Street. The temporary cabin will be put in place from 26 August onwards and will be in place for approximately two weeks. The cabin will be transported to site by means of a vehicle stationed at the southern end of Castlemain Street. The cabin delivery and collection is anticipated to take approximately 40 minutes and we will try to schedule the activity at off-peak times . As a result of the collection activity and the size of the collection vehicle, residents who reside in properties at the southern end of Castlemain Street might find it difficult to access their properties while this takes place.
